Certain grocery stores won't double coupons anymore; or they limit the amount. What you can still do to cut down on your grocery bill.
It's not unusual to see a Mercedes pull up to a discount grocery store. Or a woman in a designer suit take out a fist full of coupons. These days, coupons are all the rage. But now, you may only receive face value for them. Are the days when all supermarkets double coupons coming to an end?
How to Save Money at the Grocery Store even when Supermarkets Stop Doubling Coupons
Continue to clip coupons even if your store won't double them. It used to be that on certain days of the week, or maybe even every day, supermarkets would offer to double manufacturer coupons. Now, you're probably seeing more signs stating, "We no longer double coupons." Or maybe your local store only doubles up to a certain amount, say 40 cents. Even without the added bonus from stores, it still pays to clip. You can combine those coupons with supermarket sales. Many stores are also offering lower prices on milk and eggs to get you in the door. Pay attention to when supermerkets put items on sale. It usually follows a pattern, say every four to six weeks. And load up on store brands. They are often at least 20 percent cheaper and go on sale more often than name brands.
Look at trading coupons. There are a lot of free web sites devoted to exchanging coupons. If you find one for baby formula, hold on to it. Those are valuable on coupon trading web sites.
Buy at warehouse clubs and bakery outlet stores. Sam's Club and Costco have never been busier. Now's the time to stock up on non-perishables, and store them in creative places! Many people are down-sizing, so you have to think outside the kitchen when it comes to storing canned goods, paper towels, toilet paper, soda and boxed foods. Under the bed and in guest closets are great places! Don't be afraid to shop at warehouse clubs even if you have a small family, or live in an apartment.
Pay attention to grocery store sales flyers. If you go to your supermarket's web site, you can download their sales for the week. Plan your meals around the discounted items and search for free recipes online before heading to the store.
Remember the supermarket deli department if you don't feel like cooking. It sure beats eating out and you can often feed a family of four a ready-cooked meal for under $10.
Finally, hard times may be affecting the supermarkets, but they still can't afford to lose customers. So watch for other in-store promotions and there are still plenty of opportunities for price matching.
