Ways to save on those tax free shopping days. How to spend less and get more for back to school.

Tax free shopping days are a boon for consumers and retailers. But don't just buy basic school supplies. Take advantage of Uncle Sam's gift and save big on computers and clothes as well.

What to Buy during Tax Free Shopping Days:

Consumers can save big on not just notebooks and paper clips, but also computer hardware and software. Buying a big ticket item on a tax free shopping day will save big bucks, But know what to buy before ever stepping into the store. Do the research and find the right computer at the right price. Stores often offer sales in conjunction with those tax free days to lure customers into their store. Take advantage of those big savings both online and at brick-and-mortar stores. But before buying online, be sure to try out a demo in the store first.

Buying Clothes on Tax Free Shopping Days:

A lot of retailers are offering fall preview sales on tax free weekend. But even if they aren't, look for summer markdowns in fall colors. A short sleeved t-shirt in a rust orange would look great on those warm October days when the leaves are beginning to turn. Also, check out discount stores for underwear, belts, and accessories. Those items don't often go on sale, so buying them on the tax-free weekend will save a little off the price tag. And it wouldn't hurt to get to the store on Thursday, August 6th, and ask the sales clerk to hold the merchandise until the next day. That way consumers can be sure to get the items they came for without other shoppers getting to them first!

Buying School Supplies on Tax Free Weekend:

Notebooks and pencils probably won't be on sale. But be sure to get that school supply list well before tax free weekend, and arrive as soon as the doors open. Discount stores like Wal-Mart and K-mart will be packed with back-to-school shoppers. So, by arriving early, students can pick out the right color and type of supplies before they are sold out.

Trade with Friends for Clothes and Accessories:

It money is tight this year, exchange clothes with friends who are around the same size but go to a different school. Also shop Goodwill for some great brands at bargain prices. Even garage and estate sales are wonderful places to find cool clothes for the new school year. By getting a little creative, buying the right gently worn clothes will draw a bunch of compliments and save a lot of money!
