Filled with tuna, egg noodles, mushrooms, celery and peas in a creamy sauce, this is a quick seafood dish. But does it taste as good as it looks?

It’s got a lot of tuna and a lot of taste, but not enough of either. (See how to make this dish taste more like homemade below.) But if you spice up the noodles and add a few of your own ingredients, this is one tuna noodle casserole that even the kids will like.

Price

$2.99 for 12 ounces (one serving)

How to Prepare Stouffer’s Tuna Noodle Casserole

If you follow the conventional oven cooking directions it will take 45 minutes until dinner is ready. The microwave instructions take just seven minutes, but you won’t get crisp browned noodles. So instead, do a combination of both.

  1. Remove film cover and cook for three minutes on high in the microwave.
  2. Place tray on baking sheet and cook in oven pre-heated to 350 degrees for 23 minutes.
  3. Carefully remove dish from the oven and let stand for two minutes.

Taste

The sauce is pretty creamy and the noodles are not limp, as long as you follow the "micro-bake" directions and don’t cook it fully in the microwave. This dish could use a little more tuna and a few more vegetables (see below.) And you’ll need to add your own spices unless you like bland frozen dinners. Overall, this is a nutritious and quick week night dinner.

  1. Add two tablespoons of canned tuna (make sure it is well drained) about halfway through the cooking time.
  2. Add two tablespoons frozen mixed vegetables before you put the dish in the oven.
  3. Sprinkle pepper and special seasoning for chicken or fish (you can find it in the spice aisle of the supermarket) over the entire casserole.
