A quick heat-and-serve meal that you can make taste like home-made in minutes.

This isn’t the lasagna that Mom used to make. But you can make it taste like you spent hours in the kitchen with just a few special touches.

Price:

$3.73 for 19 1/8 ounces (2 ½ servings)

How to Prepare Stouffer’s Lasagna Italiano:

The directions on the box give you two choices: Either bake in a conventional oven for 53 minutes or heat in the microwave for 15 minutes. 53 minutes is a long time to wait for dinner, and fifteen minutes in the microwave will not brown the cheese or crisp the noodles. So combine the two directions for a tastier, yet-still-quick meal. Heat in the microwave (leaving the film cover on) for 10 minutes. Then finish baking in the oven for 15 minutes. Take the film cover off for the last two minutes and broil.

Taste:

A little bland. You’ll definitely need to add more seasoning to make this dish taste like it was made from scratch. (See below.) Stouffers claims the lasagna is layered with seasoned meat sauce, tomatoe sauce and real cheese. You can taste the cheese, but there’s not enough of it. The meat sauce is pretty good. But if you want a lot of meat, you’ll have to add your own.

How to Make Stouffer’s Lasagna Taste more Like Home-made:

  1. After you take it out of the oven, add two tablespoons of mozzerella cheese and sprinkle over the entire dish.
  2. Then add one teaspoon of Italian Seasoning.
  3. Finally sprinkle two teaspoons of parmesan cheese over the pasta.

So, is Stouffer’s Lasagna Italiano worth the price? Yes, if you consider each serving costs about $1.50. Sure, you might be able to make the same dish from scratch for less, but probably not much less. As long as you take the time to personalize the meal by adding your own seasoning and include a salad and some garlic bread, it’s not a bad dinner for a busy week night or a heat-and-eat lunch at the office.
