Review of Asus Eee Micro Laptop PCA Little, Inexpensive Laptop with a lot of Versatility
Looking for a cheap, lightweight laptop? The Asus Eee PC is the way to go. A cross between a pocket PC and a full-size laptop, it's great for students and travelers.
Weighing in at a mere 2 pounds, the Asus Eee PC is light yet sturdy. Bigger than a Palm Pilot, but smaller that most laptops, this brand new model is a must-have for students. With a price tag of around $350, a teenager can take it to school, or a business person can carry it on the road without worry about toting around an expensive piece of equipment. Features of the Asus Eee PC include:
This tiny laptop runs a Linux operating system but can easily be converted to Windows. It comes with four gig of memory. But for around $30 you can add an eight gig memory card. The Eee Pc 4G model 701 does not feature a web cam. For an additional $50, you can purchase the Eee PC Mobile Internet Device, which has more bells and whistles. The only drawback to this PC is the small keyboard. You wouldn’t want to type for extended periods of time. Your fingers might get a little cramped. But the portability and light weight make up for it. The Asus starts up lightning fast and you can connect to the Internet just as quickly. You might call the Asus Eee PC a cross between a pocket PC and a laptop. With a flash drive instead of a hard drive you can’t beat the two pound weight for portability. And the keyboard makes sending e-mails on the road much easier than trying to manipulate the stylus on a Palm Pilot. If the small 800 x 480 pixel display bothers you, hook it up to an external LCD screen. You can usually pick one up for less than $200. The Asus features a pre-loaded media player and the speakers don’t sound too bad for the size. The Asus manufacturer’s manual is not the easiest to use. Setting up Internet access is a little difficult for a beginner, because most people are used to Windows rather than the Linux operating system. This tutorial will help you set up the wireless network and e-mail. The Asus Eee has some interesting features like voice recognition and Open Office software that is compatible with Microsoft Office. If you’re travelling be aware that the battery charger will only last about two and a half hours. So plan accordingly. Bottom line: A good user-friendly mini PC at an affordable price.
