Sure, coupons save money, but why not double your savings every time you shop! Learn how to take advantage of double coupons and two-for-one sales.
The minute you enter the supermarket, steer clear of the bakery, meat and produce departments…That is until you grab the store flyer, with all those money-saving coupons inside. And don’t even think about entering the grocery store at all on days when there’s no double-coupon promotion going on.
Follow These Tips for Double Savings Every Time You Shop
You don’t need to scour the newspaper every day to find grocery store sales and double-coupon deals. Before you head out the door, check your local chain’s web site for this week’s specials. Kroger will give you every sale and double-coupon event going on for the entire week, just by entering your zip code. You can even sort by brand and product type.
Learn what stores offer double coupons on which day of the week. Then save your coupons and don’t shop until double-coupon day. Sure, the store will be packed with savvy shoppers like you, but you can avoid the rush by going at odd times, like early in the morning and late in the evening. But if you’re worried about out-of-stock items, get up extra early that day and enter the store at five or six a.m. A lot of chains are open 24/7 and the extra savings will be worth any sleep deprivation!
Shop with a friend. If there’s a two-for-one special, and you have nowhere to store 50 rolls of toilet paper, split it with someone else, and don’t hesitate to trade coupons.
Look for other promotions compatible with double coupons. Sometimes stores will say "not valid with other promotions" on their advertisements and coupons. But you may luck out and find double coupons that go along with advertised specials, making your savings that much bigger. If you're unsure, talk to a manager. He/she may allow you to combine coupons anyway.
Don’t throw away those receipts! When the cashier hands you your receipt, or when you pull it out of the self-checking machine, look carefully because there are usually money-saving coupons attached. And those savings are based on what you’ve just purchased, so the coupons will apply to a product you’re likely to buy again. Read all the fine print, paying particular attention to the expiration date. Then save it for double-coupon day!
Double coupons every day. Some stores will double manufacturers' coupons every day, but they may set a fifty cent or one dollar limit. For instance, they may only double coupons under a dollar.
Take advantage of the competition’s coupons. Many stores will honor their competition’s in-store coupons. So if one chain is having a sale, and you have a coupon from another store, you may be able to combine the savings for a great deal!
