Extra Cash for Cars – Chrysler Doubles $4,500 Incentive for New AutosChrysler is going all out for the Cash for Clunkers program. Not only will the company allow its dealers to participate, they are offering double cash for some vehicle purchases. In July 2009, the Chrysler Group, LLC announced a “Double CA$H for Your Old Car” program. According to Steven Beahm, Vice President of Sales Operations for the Chrysler Group, “Everyone shopping for a new car or truck qualifies for an incentive of up to $4,500 – even if they don’t have a vehicle that qualifies under the U.S. government’s program.” The good news for consumers is that Clunkers program rules require dealers to add $3,500 or $4,500 car rebates to any existing dealer incentives. This means that when an individual is eligible to trade in a qualifying clunker for a new auto, Chrysler must give its (up to) $4,500 dealer incentive in addition to the federal government voucher credit. This means some consumers may receive $9,000 off the price of a new 2009 model Chrysler, Jeep, or Dodge vehicle. Under Chrysler’s Double CA$H for Your Old Car program, consumers may opt to receive zero percent financing for up to 72 months instead of the up to $4,500 cash incentive. 2009 Cash for Clunkers Stimulus Program – Consumer AwarenessIn spite of tempting car discounts offered by dealerships and the United States federal government, consumers should do their homework to ensure they are getting a quality vehicle. For instance, according to Consumer Reports (in a July 23, 2009 blog entry entitled “How Do Chrysler’s ‘Double Cash for Your Old Car’ Incentives Add Up?"), only eight Chrysler models qualify for an additional $4,500 cash discount. All consumers should triple check dealer offers and carefully research purchases before trading in cars for $3,500 or $4,500 federal government vouchers under the Cash for Clunkers program.
