Mintz's Blintzes and Blueberry Fruit Sauce, M. Dubuque
If you are lactose intolerant, or are just looking for a healthy dessert alternative, these ready-to-eat tofu treats will surprise you.

Dairy-free. Cheese-less...sounds pretty tasteless. But the following desserts have fewer calories, taste good and are good for you.

Mintz’s Blintzes by Tofutti

These dairy free, cholesterol free, lactose free crepes contain no butterfat and actually taste great! Your family will never know they are cheese-less and made with tofu. The crepes come pre-baked. All you have to do is defrost and heat in the microwave for 30 seconds. The "Tofutti better-than-cream cheese" filling actually has a rich taste to it. But you really need to add a sauce to make this a complete gourmet dessert. Try Trader Joe’s Wild Maine Blackberry Fruit Sauce. Simply pour the sauce over the blintzes before you microwave. Then heat it all together for 30 seconds per blintz. You’ll have a hot crepe drizzled with a warm blackberry filled sauce.

Trader Joe’s Soy Creamy Mini Chocolate Sandwiches Non Diary Frozen Dessert

The soy-based chocolate filling tastes creamy and chocolaty. But the cookie sandwich is slightly limp. A good snack if you’re hungry and on the go. But if you’re planning on feeding these to the kids, they might not take too well to the taste if they’re used to ice cream sandwiches. Instead try sherbet or sorbet. Most grocery stores carry a decent selection, and so do ice cream parlors.

Why is Tofu so Good for You?

It contains soy, which is a great source of protein, selenium and omega 3 fatty acids. If you don’t eat meat, soy is one of the best ways to get protein into your diet. According to the USDA, other sources of protein for vegetarians include beans, nuts, nut butter peas, as well as milk and egg products (as long as you’re not lactose intolerant.) If you have the time, try making tofu desserts from scratch.
