Having cans of soup on hand for those cold winter months is a good idea, especially when they are so cheap! How to get the best deals on soup.

Soup makes a great lunch or dinner...and buying cans on the cheap makes a lot of sense in this economy. Smart consumers know how to stock up and save!

How to Save Money Buying Canned Soup

First of all, not all soups are alike. Read the labels carefully. What looks like a good deal money-wise could cost consumers in the nutrition department. Stay away from soups that contain too much sodium. A lot of companies are listening to health-conscious consumers and are cutting back on the amount of salt in their cans. Even labels that read "organic" aren't necessarily the healthiest. Check the ingredient list carefully to make sure what's on the label is healthy and nutritious.

Compare Prices for Soup Online

Amazon and other specialty online stores sell soups at competitive prices. So, before heading out to the grocery store or even the warehouse club, check out prices online first. There might be some unique brands and varieties that supermarkets don't even offer. Also, be sure to do an internet coupon search before shopping online or at the supermarket.

Buy Soup in Quantity

Sam's Club and Costco sell soup in packs. Those amount to some real savings as long as family members don't get tired of cream of mushroom or tomato soup very fast! If the package contains too many cans for everyone to eat, consider using the soup in recipes. Even recipes on can labels are often easy and economical to make. Also, soup lasts forever, so don't be afraid to buy large amounts and store in a pantry, a guest closet, or even under a bed or in a drawer! Clean out those closets and give unwanted clothes to charity. And make room for canned goods!

Make Homemade Soup

It's not as hard as it sounds. There are lots of free soup recipes on the internet. And as long as the ingredients aren't too complex, consumers might realize even more savings by making soup from scratch instead of buying cans.

Soup is Great for Weight Loss

As long as it doesn't contain too much sodium or fat, a lot of weight loss experts recommend soup as a way to fill up and cut back on calories. Just be careful about adding high fat milk. Stick to water or skim milk. Many companies are offering ready-to-eat soups that don't require consumers to add anything.

Soup is not just a warm-weather food. Cold soups are all the rage in certain cultures, and they are catching on in the U.S. as well!
