Benefits to Consumer Shopping

Stretching a Dollar

Oct 17, 2009 Ann Salembier

If the consumer does the math at the mall a better deal can be had when there is time to browse and find the right price combination of goods.

While at the mall notice the sale signs. A few quick calculations can yield an enormous number of benefits to the consumer. Strolling down the mall at a local shopping centre can be a pleasant experience, the sales are fantastic, the coffee is fresh and the decorations are mind boggling. Knowing the cold weather is coming the consumer may decide a warm polar fleece is in need. The mall is one popular choice among consumers to visit.

Visiting the Mall

Store front windows often have signage that when correctly displayed can invite the consumer into the establishment. Going to the mall during low peak periods gives the sales staff more time to develop good customer rapport. Often a visit to the mall in the early morning just after opening or during the dinner hour when most folks are at home can give the consumer more time to spend with the sales staff. Carefully browsing the mall and finding the right retail store, with good sales marketing combined with a team of sales associate ready to give the client their full attention is what makes consumer sense.

There are a lot of choices out there and the consumer needs the best price, for a style and fit that well trained staff can provide. Sales marketing can be a confusing experience but with the right sales associate the consumer can benefit from the product knowledge and experience of seasoned staff. Cut backs to staff leave the consumer wandering around the store with little help to guide. Sizing can be difficult and finding something for everybody needs an experienced sales associate.

Benefiting the Consumer

Finding the sales confusing? What is required is some quick math and a good sales associate to help the consumer get the most out of shopping. In order to receive the benefit of the $15.00 savings being offered on the signage it takes product and pricing knowledge. Understanding the sale requires a bundle of goods that registers $75.00 before tax. Purchasing two fleeces priced at $65.00 with a $12.00 pair of socks the price before tax is $77.00.

A $15.00 saving is offered to the consumer at the $75.00 price level, the bundle of goods originally priced at $77.00 is now reduced to $62.00 with the discount. Sales staff when given enough information can suggest an add-on pair of socks priced at $12.00 to bundle with the two fleeces priced at $65.00, so the consumer receives the benefit of a new pair of socks and saves a few bucks as well.

How to Get a Pair of Socks and Save $3.00

  • Fleeces $65.00
  • Socks $12.00
  • Total $77.00
  • Take off $15.00
  • Actual amount owed is $62.00

It is all about doing the math and using communication skills to find the benefit for the consumer. Riding the wave of the current retail sales industry can be tough. However, a benefit can be found with the right sales environment, product knowledge and excellent communication skills between the consumer and the sales associate. Leaving the mall happy knowing the consumer got the best deal the store could offer that day based on current knowledge of business cycles yields more consumer confidence and a healthy economy.

Making Time to Visit the Mall

Making time to visit the mall when it is not too busy and getting to know the local staff can yield a benefit to everyone. With the right fit between the customer and the sales staff the consumer can win but it takes time, product knowledge and the best sale ever.
